What is SurfZone.pg?

SurfZone.pg is Datec’s Hotspot and Residential Wireless System using high-speed broadband wireless to deliver Internet Connectivity to Residential Areas and Hotels. This means that at selected locations where a SurfZone.pg signal can be found, users can connect to and surf the World Wide Web.

What is the difference between a Hotspot and Residential Wireless?

Hotspot systems are normally available in Hotels and Residential Wireless System are available in selected Apartments and Buildings within Port Moresby. Residential Wireless System is available only to Residential/Home  Users.

What do I need to use the SurfZone.pg System?

With a Wi-Fi™ enabled laptop, a user will be able to connect to the SurfZone.pg system, wherever it is available. Simply purchase a prepaid card containing a username and password and logon. Or, if you are a Residential Wireless Customer, your username and password would be given to you when you sign up to one of our plans.

What is the cost of using the System?

Our SurfZone.pg System is available in both fixed charges and prepaid. Fixed Charges apply to Residential Wireless Customers and Prepaid are available to hotspot users. Where do I purchase prepaid cards?

Prepaid Cards are sold at all Coral Sea Hotels throughout PNG, Office Works Kokopo, RPYC and at all Datec Offices.

Where can I find locations of the SurfZone.pg System?

Is there any restrictions in the use of the SurfZone.pg System?

SurfZone.pg is an open connection system, allowing the user access to the Internet. However, inappropriate use of the Internet is punishable by appropriate Laws of this Country.

What are the security measures in place to protect  the customer's privacy?

The SurfZone.pg System is built using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology protecting the privacy of the customer. When you submit your username and password for authentication, those credentials are encrypted with a 1024-bit key and any “middle-person” will be unable to extract any useful information from it. However, SSL protection employed on our system protects only the user’s credentials during authentication, and does not protect the user from the website being viewed. Having said that, we encourage all our customers that, when exchanging confidential information while online, necessary precautions must be taken. These include, the installation of Personal Firewalls, Updated Antivirus and Antispyware software, updated and fully patched Operating System.

Does SurfZone.pg System Support Roaming?

Yes, our SurfZone.pg System uses a centralized authentication database, which means a username and password can be used anyway in our SurfZone.pg locations.

Does the SurfZone.pg System allow simultaneous login?

A single login is only available to all Prepaid Customers. Residential Wireless Users can request for up to two simultaneous login. This maybe ideal for Residents that have multiple computers where multiple persons within the household require Internet Access.

How do I view my usage?

Our system will display a pop-up window that shows the current usage to the user. The user is encouraged to monitor this window closely to see how much time you have left.
Most Web Browsers disable pop-ups by default. Therefore, the user is encouraged to either disable the pop-up blocker feature in your Web browser or add our SurfZone.pg login URL into your secure sites zone of your web browser. Refer to our User Guide on how to do that.

Our SurfZone.pg login window is http://surfzone.pg.datec.net.pg. Normally the user need not remember this URL. Our system will automatically forward you to this login page. However we do encourage our frequent users to bookmark this site for easy reference.

What happens when my credits run out?

Our system will automatically log you off as soon as your credits have depleted.

What should you do if the status window is accidentally closed?

Go to http://surfzone.pg.datec.net.pg/status to view the status window again.
